Tips for hacking your lesson plans part 4

As teachers, our time is often sucked up by ‘non-teaching’ tasks. In this blog series I’ll cover some effective ways to ‘hack’ your lesson planning to help you be more efficient a manage your time for other ‘teaching’ tasks.

Tip #4: Reuse, recycle, refresh

This might seem like an obvious lesson plan hacking tip, but once you’ve used a long-range planner and lesson plan templates for a year or 2 , you’ll find that is so much easier to go back in year after year and simply amend activities or lessons to fit your current students.

Because everything’s laid out neatly by year in the long-range planner it’s easy to track and compare where your students are from year to year. This helps keep the lesson planning process streamlined and efficient. if you have spent the time up front using a long range planner you’re more likely to stay on track with your learning objectives.

There are a ton of resources available for planning online. If you are teaching beginning band or middle school band , I highly recommend checking out Darcy Williams pacing for success. Additionally, look at her Teaching Rhythms Logically book. These 2 books have completely changed the way I teach rhythms and plan my year for beginning band.

For other teaching areas, there are also a ton of resources available. We’ve put together a list of available planning books and resources that cover most subject areas. Get it by clicking the link below.
