As teachers, our time is often sucked up by ‘non-teaching’ tasks. In this blog series I’ll cover some effective ways to ‘hack’ your lesson planning to help you be more efficient a manage your time for other ‘teaching’ tasks.
Tip #2: Use a lesson plan template
If you are lucky enough that your administrators allow you some flexibility in how your lesson plans are formatted, then I would recommend using a simplified streamlined “less-is-more” planner template.
As you can see below, the lesson plan template I use is very simple and contains only the most important parts of the lesson. I find that using this simple template helps me to better effectively plan each lesson and efficiently complete the planning process. I use this document and type in all the necessary components.
Bonus tip: If you’re using a long-range planner like I’ve recommended on the previous post, you can just copy and paste the agenda items right into this lesson plan template.
Save a “Template” file, that you open each time you are creating a new plan, and then insert the lesson data everywhere you see a << >>. Be sure to save the new file with a new file name that reflects the class/grade level and date of the lesson.
